Collection: Time for Tea

From a quick cuppa during the working day to luxurious Afternoon Tea the chance to enjoy a cup of tea is a familiar moment in many peoples’ lives today. In this exhibition we will explore tea from leaf to cup including everything from how you boil your water to the best kind of cup or mug to use.

Look back at the tea houses and cafes St Albans has been home to in the past, explore what makes black tea different to green or white tea and travel across the Atlantic to a sugar plantation run by a St Albans landowner.

We’ll also be unpacking kettles, thermoses, delicate tea bowls and decorative teapots from our collection to show you what people in St Albans have drunk their tea in and we’ll also be asking you to share your favourite mugs.
